About The Project

Following the 2021 approval of the Municipal Development Plan (Flourish) ⭳, and in anticipation of updating the Land Use Bylaw in 2023, the Planning branch has taken initiative to recommend various ‘house-keeping’ amendments to the Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan (DARP) ⭳ – to increase clarification, and to ensure consistency/alignment between these planning documents.


Proposed Amendments

This "red-lined" version of DARP primarily involves minor text changes to select figures/maps, as well as clarifying some of the detailed regulatory language. In many instances, the proposed amendments involve changing terms from “shall” to “should”, or incorporating new terms such as “potential” or “guideline” – to better demonstrate the desired nature of select policies/regulations (which is typically the role of the Land Use Bylaw to regulate in more detail, not a statutory plan like DARP).


Public Hearing

The proposed DARP amendments are a Council process undertaken by the City’s Planning branch, which requires a bylaw with three readings and a public hearing.

Any proposed changes to DARP must be presented to and decided upon by City Council. The public hearing is now scheduled for January 10, 2023, and is advertised in Citylights in the St. Albert Gazette.
