Background
On August 16, 2021, Council approved a proposal for an E-Scooter Pilot Project for the City of St. Albert. The project will seek to determine the viability of e-scooter sharing in St. Albert, with the pilot running from September 2021 through the end of 2022. During the course of the pilot, e-scooter sharing companies will be able to park their e-scooter fleets throughout the City, where residents can rent and use them through a related company app.
What does the Project Involve?
The pilot project involves amendments to the Traffic Bylaw to define an E-Scooter and treat it similarly to other modes of personal transportation (e.g., Bikes), and Business Licence conditions that will regulate how e-scooter sharing companies will operate in St. Albert (like restrictions on how fast e-scooters may go and limitations on where they can operate within the City).
Evaluation of the Pilot Project will include considerations related to public safety, public impact, market demand, and financial and operational impacts on the City.
Feedback
Feedback from the residents in the community provided through this platform will also be collected and used to help determine if the pilot should become a permanent fixture in St. Albert.
