What's in a Name? The Past, Present and Future of Municipal Naming
Join us for this public event for the Municipal Naming Project!
This highly anticipated evening will take us on a deeper dive of municipal naming and renaming work that has been happening locally and across the country. On a national scale, many towns and cities have been removing commemorative place names from municipal assets in an effort to align naming practices with community values and an evolving historical narrative. As the City of St. Albert looks to residents for feedback that affirms our community values – those community values can translate into an updated Naming Policy and formalized renaming process. What’s in a Name? will guide the project team and the public through a moderated discussion with panelists that can help the City of St. Albert identify emerging best practices and key considerations for the future Naming Policy.
The format of the event will be as follows:
The project team will pose a set of questions to the panelists, and each panelist will provide a response on stage. A brief intermission will follow, and our moderator Harry Harker will ask the audience to form a line to have their questions recorded.
When: November 1, 2022 from 7 to 10 p.m.
Where: Arden Theatre (5 St. Anne Street) St. Albert
Cost: Free
