What We Heard & Amended Parks Master Plan
We would like to thank everyone who participated and provided their feedback on the Riverside Parks Master Plan amendment. The newly updated plan reflects the changes to park sizes and classifications resulting from the March 2020 Area Structure Plan amendment process. You can find the updated plan in the key documents link on the right of the screen.
Through the process, we heard from 42 residents through an online survey, questions tool, forum, or email. The results of that engagement are found in the What We Heard report found in the key documents link on the right of the screen. Major themes from the public engagement that were incorporated into the plan include:
- Additional opportunities for play, including for youth. An additional small-scale play feature was added to the conservation park and the asphalt surface in neighbourhood park 2 was reconfigured to allow for the inclusion of a basketball court.
- Concerns about the placement of trails and amenities in Riverside Park (community park 2). The sliding hill has been moved more centrally so it is away from the existing housing. The playground and seating node have also moved further south, with the sports field occupying the area closest to the existing homes.
Other concerns including the potential roadway to support the multi-family housing adjacent to the urban square and concerns around roadway design and the extension of Rankin Drive (formerly Meadowview Lane) were not able to be addressed by this plan. These concerns have been relayed to the developer and relevant City departments to inform future decision making.
Once again, we appreciate your continued interest and support in ensuring the Riverside park spaces support a healthy, active and connected community. We look forward to connecting with you as the parks in the plan come to life.
