About the Project

The City of St. Albert is committed to ensuring that residents have access to a coordinated and connected network of social services that responds to the broad needs of the community.

It has been over 10 years since a formal community social needs assessment in St. Albert has been conducted. The socio-economic impacts elevated by the pandemic have resulted in new and emerging social issues that are being felt by all communities.

St. Albert is a growing and diverse community; promoting and building a welcoming and inclusive community is important. It is critical that, as a community, we are working together to respond to the most pressing social issues for the betterment of all residents.

A connected, safe and inclusive City supports all residents, and helps to foster a strong sense of community well-being.

What We Asked

We are interested in learning what is important to you, and how we can better meet the community social needs of children/youth, families, adults and seniors in St. Albert. We want to know:

  • How important is it that we address issues like social isolation, food insecurity, discrimination, mental health, homelessness, family violence, vandalism and more?
  • What kind of social support services are needed?

By completing this survey, you will help the City to understand what social issues St. Albertans are facing, identify where we can improve and what we should be focusing on now and into future.

Public feedback generated through this survey will be considered along with stakeholder and partner input, and community demographic analyses.

This survey closed on May 31 and we would like to thank everyone who completed the survey. Your valued feedback and input is greatly appreciated.

The City of St. Albert launched the Community Social Needs Assessment project in April 2023 to learn more about what is important to residents and how we can better meet the community social needs of children/youth, families, adults and seniors.

The public participation took place from April to June 2023 and is now complete. An online survey collected data from residents, with 1,547 respondents providing information on what social issues were important to them and their perspectives on how we can better meet the social needs of those living in our community.

The project team spoke to more than 700 residents at various community pop-up and outreach sessions, with several residents providing written feedback to the City by email.

This input has provided the City with a better understanding of the community social needs of children, youth, families, adults and seniors in our growing and changing community. The information also gives us insight into how we can all work together as a community to address social issues.

The survey feedback has been summarized into the What We Heard Report.

Thanks to those who provided input. The survey information will be considered along with stakeholder and partner input, and community demographic analyses to inform the development of community strategies and initiatives to address social issues in our community.

The next phase of the project will involve a stakeholder engagement session and the development of a community social plan (roadmap) to support community wellbeing for residents now and in the future. Please monitor the page for further updates.
