Help Shape the Future of Jensen Lakes Parks!

The City of St. Albert is planning two new projects in Jensen Lakes, and your ideas are essential! Share your feedback online or in-person between July 15 and August 5, 2025, to help design new park spaces that foster recreation, community connection and to help Jensen Lakes grow as a vibrant and active neighbourhood.

Parks are planned in a continuum starting with conceptual design and moving through detailed design, construction and operation. These steps are guided by the City’s Parks and Open Spaces Standards and Guidelines. Conceptual planning for Jensen Lakes Phase 1 was completed in 2021, with the first park under that plan, Jennifer Park, completed in 2023. This work addresses the design of the next park, the Connector Park, and extends the conceptual planning to the northernmost area of Jensen Lakes, Phase 2.

Project 1: Jensen Lakes Connector Park – Detailed Design

This future 2.3 ha Connector Park will be a vibrant, active green corridor connecting Jensen Lakes Phases 1 and 2, with pathways extending toward the neighbouring Nouveau community.

Designed for walking, cycling, wheeling and relaxing, the proposed park features include:

  • Pathways for all ages and abilities.

  • Natural plantings and seating areas.

  • Features that balance privacy for nearby homes with active and inviting spaces.

  • Unique "play along the way" opportunities include a paved pump track and small skate and bike features.

This project is now moving from concept planning into detailed design, and we want your feedback to make sure this space fits the community's needs. Your feedback will be used to ensure any concerns are considered in the design and to update and finalize the overall design plans for the site. Construction of this design will be completed when funding is available.

Key activities in this phase:

  • Detailed design: Using City standards, guidelines and industry best practices, a concept plan is drafted that considers the site location, surrounding context and neighbourhood character.
  • Public engagement: The City provides opportunities for the public to review and provide feedback on the proposed detailed design of the park.
  • Detailed design refinement and readiness for construction: Feedback gathered through public engagement is used to update and refine the park design, ensuring it aligns with the community's vision and enhances the overall livability of the Jensen Lakes neighbourhood.

Project 2: Jensen Lakes Phase 2 – Concept Planning

As Jensen Lakes expands north, we’re also planning future park spaces in Phase 2 of the neighbourhood. The park's construction will coincide with the neighbourhood’s development and will take many years to complete. The concept planning stage enables effective decision making that considers each park site, along with the needs of not only Jensen Lakes, but the entire City.

The future Jensen Lakes Phase 2 parks include:

  • A 3.3ha community park.

  • A 1.5ha neighbourhood park.

  • A 0.2ha new park space adjacent to the future stormwater management facility.

  • Additional connections to the new connector park are designed through Project 1.

Your ideas will help us shape the future parks in Jensen Lakes by weighing in on the design characteristics and amenities you’d like to be nearby.

An additional park is shown in the area structure plan, but is anticipated to be planned alongside future work on the long-term Transit Oriented Development.

Key activities in this phase:

  • Conceptual Plan drafting: Using City standards, guidelines and industry best practices, a concept plan is drafted that considers the site location, surrounding context and neighbourhood character.
  • Public Engagement: The City provides opportunities for the public to review and provide feedback on the proposed detailed design of the park.
  • Concept plan refinement: Feedback gathered through public engagement is used to update and refine the park design, ensuring it aligns with the community's vision and enhances well-being within the Jensen Lakes neighbourhood. The final concept report will be found in the key documents once complete.
