The City of St. Albert is updating the current Parks Bylaw to ensure St. Albert’s parks and open spaces are well managed and maintained to meet the needs of the community today and in the future. The Parks Bylaw was approved in 1965 and it has been more than a decade since the last review of the bylaw. The Parks Bylaw protects St. Albert’s parks and open spaces and provides guidelines for residents to safely and equitably use and enjoy these spaces.

Your Feedback is Important

Your input will help update the bylaw to support the City manage parks and open spaces appropriately with updates like:

  • Alcohol consumption in parks
  • Environmental protection in parks
  • Recreational activities in parks
  • Businesses in parks
  • Events in parks

Through this project site, the City of St. Albert will keep you informed, listen to and acknowledge concerns and aspirations, and provide feedback on how public input influenced the decision. We will seek your feedback on drafts and proposals.

Purpose of Engagement

One of the main purposes for seeking public engagement on a draft new Parks Bylaw is to determine whether any revisions to the draft are appropriate before the bylaw is sent to Council. Therefore, the version of the bylaw that eventually goes to Council may not be identical to the draft version posted here, depending on feedback received from the general public or from specific stakeholder groups (including internal stakeholders within the City organization). Anyone wishing to make representations to Council on the version of the new Parks Bylaw that is eventually recommended by administration, will have that opportunity before debate and voting on second and third readings, upon notice published in the Gazette and on the City’s website.
