The City of St. Albert is drafting an Urban Agriculture Plan, which will identify the components of urban agriculture that are important to residents in our community. The Plan would lay out priorities for the promotion and development of urban agriculture within St. Albert, and how we aim to bring that vision to life.
St. Albert is a member of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board, and all member municipalities of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board have committed to the adoption of an Urban Agriculture Plan.
An Urban Agriculture Plan will specifically speak to the built urban portion of St. Albert; outer areas which are still rural and may be operating traditional or industrial agriculture will not be affected. Your feedback will help create an Urban Agriculture Plan that is tailored to our own community’s goals and values.
Urban agriculture refers to the practice of cultivating food within an urban area. It can include growing fruits, herbs and vegetables, or raising animals, and may include urban farming, roof-top gardens, backyard hens, beekeeping and community gardens.
We appreciate your input on what urban agriculture in St. Albert should look like, and what types of urban agriculture you are interested in, to help guide the development of the Urban Agriculture Plan.
Thank you to everyone who completed the survey.
There is still room for participants in the public workshop being held by staff on November 25 for those who would like to be more involved in the project. If you are interested, please email Suzanne at SRuegg@stalbert.ca with your name and contact information to be added to the workshop list.
