Prioritizing Universal and Barrier-Free Access

The City of St. Albert is seeking public input to help create a safe, inclusive and accessible space for children of all abilities to share in friendship, fun and play.

In alignment with the City's Universal Access Plan, the outdoor playground located in Fountain Park (6 Cunningham Road) will soon be replaced with the first accessible and inclusive play space area in St. Albert!

Features

Accessible and inclusive playgrounds feature elements that are developmentally appropriate for children with and without disabilities and are thoughtfully designed to provide a safe and fun place where children of all abilities can play together.

Fountain Park is classified as a community park with an existing playground structure designed for ages 18 months to 12 years. The replacement playground structure will also be designed for ages 18 months to 12 years and will include accessible ground surfacing.

    Thank you to those who submitted their thoughts and ideas through the Fountain Park accessible and inclusive playground survey.

    The valuable and thoughtful feedback that the project team received was used to select the successful playground contractor, PlayQuest Recreation.

    The final Fountain Park playground design along with the results from the survey can be found in the What We Heard Report that is located on the right-hand side under key documents.

    New play equipment has been ordered and site removals and new construction is expected to take place from early July to late-August 2022. More details on the construction impacts and timelines will be shared in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned!
