The Garbage Can Design Contest is an annual competition where students paint garbage cans in an effort to help beautify the city!
This year's theme is Happy Habitats, highlighting the importance of clean environments, balanced ecosystems and the well-being of all living things.
Contest entrants will be decorating garbage cans with animals living in clean forests, cities, rivers, parks, and neighborhoods. The artwork would highlight how keeping garbage off the ground helps animals, ecosystems, and communities stay happy and healthy.
Presented by TD, this contest is part of the Spruce Up St. Albert program, an annual clean up program that encourages resident participation in a variety of activities that ultimately keep our community looking its best! The final painted garbage cans are placed around the city in our parks and neighbourhoods for all to enjoy!

From May 8 to May 18, 2026, residents can view one-of-a-kind designs and vote for their favourite.
The contest winner will be announced on May 20, 2026!
